Just officially opened on 3/10/15 the Penn Wharton China Center is Wharton's third global location featuring a Cisco telepresence room and other cutting-edge learning technologies. With over 12 years of service, Marko's primary role is deploying classroom technology and instructional services for these campuses and is involved in strategic planning, system design, and execution of technology related projects.
"Introduction to Solstice: A Wireless Collaboration Technology" : Presented by Christopher Jaynes, Founder/CTO @ Mersive
14 trillion pixels were deployed into our public and common spaces last year. These spaces often contain the ability to display 10s of millions of pixels of information to their occupants. Unfortunately, the way we access and use displays has changed very little since they were first connected to the technology landscape in the mid-1970s. Users are unable to access displays without a physical video cable and when they do, displays are dedicated to the single content source that connects to it. The single-user, single-content-source display paradigm hasn’t been challenged because display technology has been driven by hardware life-cycles and the historical approach of providing inter-connectivity between computing devices and displays via slowing evolving global video standards.
In the past six years, wireless collaboration software has emerged that can unlock displays into a accessible networked infrastructure that allows any number of users to connect and share to displays simultaneously. Solstice is one example of this software whose approach is based on the view that displays should be shared like other aspects of our computing environment and that, once displays are managed with software, they can become a powerful collaboration and visualization tool. Christopher will introduce Solstice, the software he developed to support this approach and discuss several use cases that show how wireless media streaming to a large pixel landscape is being used to transform conference rooms, collaboration centers, and classrooms.

In a follow-up to their presentation at our last conference, the Wharton team will discuss how they went from the system design stage to the full implementation of their wireless collaboration initiative. Use cases will also be presented on how the application is currently being used within their environment focusing on initial instructor and student adoption feedback. This will be followed by a hands-on demonstration of the technology within our meeting space.
